Ooh La La I Love France

by Charlotte via Rock My Wedding

Dordogne-France
I do. It is my favourite place in Europe, maybe even my most favourite place in the whole wide world. I love the language, I love the food, I love the wine……it’s just all so very romantic.

Some years ago I discovered the most beautiful chateau I had ever laid eyes on whilst browsing on-line,  Chateau Les Merles in the Dordogne area. I had always concluded that it would be cost prohibitive and although I sent off for the details never really considered that slightly out of season might be considerably cheaper.

The breathtaking Dordogne, images by me via my iPhone.

Fast forward to March this year and we finally caved and booked the holiday destination of my dreams for the second week of June. (Notice how I said my and not “our”?, that husband of mine is a generous so and so.)

And then the fear set in, you know the kind when your expectations are raised so high you are almost guaranteed to be destined for a huge fall? THAT. Not to mention the fact that it had been so long since I had been on a proper “actually going to have time off and not get involved in RMW whilst I’m away” break that I am embarrassed to say I kind of got a bit stuck in terms of what to pack. Natalie + Will knew from the start they wanted to get married in a natural setting + keep things as stress-free as possible, so they chose their friend’s backyard (in Idaho) as their venue + kept the decor minimal, but eclectic with lots of fun vintage, bohemian + rustic accents! The gorgeous red barn + artfully landscaped gardens proved to be the perfect backdrop for a wedding that was centered around love + reflective of Natalie + Will’s sweet, laid-back personalities!

Thanks so much to Dylan and Sara Photography for the beautiful photography (just wait until you see the stunning portraits of Natalie + Will towards the end of the post!) and big congrats to the newlyweds! Read the full post here.

Let this seaside-inspired bridal fashion shoot capture your imagination

by Jade Pearson via Wedding Ideas

When Jackie from top wedding blog Ooh! Mrs James came to us with her seaside-inspired bridal fashion shoot we couldn’t wait to show you how amazing it is.

So we sat down with her and asked about the influences behind the shoot, some of the fashion choices and why she decided on the theme she did. Over to you, Jackie…

Inspirational ideas
Nicki the photographer contacted me a few months ago after I opened my vintage wedding dress boutique and approached me with the idea of collaborating on a styled shoot. I jumped at the chance!

I chose the concept of having the models act like dolls or puppets as they go on a day out together, so then we worked on a story board. After Nicki found the perfect location, Seabank in Selsey, everything really started to come together. The more we shared thoughts, the more adventurous it got and our plan for a bright, colourful and unique shoot was formed. All we needed was some like-minded wedding suppliers to make it come together.

Super suppliers

Tess from Chatter Cakes is fantastic at what she does so was a natural choice for the confectionery. She came back to us with the most out of this world, wonderful creations, including a cake covered in hundreds and thousands with an upturned ice cream on the top and one covered in sugar buttons, as well as loads of cupcakes which didn’t last long!

Irregular Choice provided us with the shoes. They were the most outrageous designs; almost as if they were made for us! A Suit That Fits kindly lent us the waistcoats. And props, like the vintage suitcases, were from Lucy Jane Ltd.

Rosey Posey Creations made bespoke flower garlands and crowns especially for the shoot. She was fantastic at listening to what we needed and taking our ideas on board.

Our make-up artist was the talented Naita Channer who did the make-up and hair for all four models and really made the ‘doll’ concept come to life. The button bouquets were from the lovely Hannah at BonnieBoo Buttons, she also made some buttonholes for the chaps to wear with their waistcoats.

We also had the help of second shooter, Laura Mott, who captured everything back stage as well as extra bouquets from Fenella’s Flowers. Nicki was amazing and her energy was contagious, she kept us all going until the end of the day when we treated ourselves to much deserved fish and chips! Read the full post .....

You guys already know my love for white embroidered dresses, now this look has me wanting an embroidered top as well. Love the idea of layering one over a nude romper, like this one. I normally see them layered over white, but the nude really makes the embroidered details pop.

(Sonia Rykiel coat, The Row tank, Rebecca Minkoff Mika leather shorts, Alexander Wang heels, Sunday Somewhere Chely sunglasses, beanie from random shop in Harajuku, Proenza Schouler PS11)

What was meant to be a simple, pure look of nothingness tank and leather shorts went through a dark metamorphosis when I went sourcing for wooly also nubby items from the gem bearing zone that is underneath the backseat of my car. Cause holy everything, San Francisco has been off and on arctic this weekend (insert acknowledgement of that one Mark Twain quote to get it out of the way) . A low point was getting back from a dinner and blow drying my carcass to the point of being able to feel again. Thusly, this coat has quickly become a non-depressing version of a security blanket so please forgive it showing up in 88% of my photos I’ve taken here. And also note that the normal folks decided against the al fresco option so they didn’t have to eat soup wearing beanies. So fun being back in the city for my first time at the America’s Cup, more on that coming up.

Karl Lagerfeld Is Designing Dirndls

Let's pretend you're given a envelope of money and have to spend it on something created by Karl Lagerfeld—whatever will you choose?! Furry helmets from Fendi's fall line? A quilted 2.55 guaranteed to match everything? Some of the designer's signature fingerless gloves? Nope. All wrong answers. You need to pick yourself up a Kaiser-made dirndl—because yuuuup, those exist now.

Even if you've never heard the term "dirndl," you've definitely seen several throughout your life. Commonly known as a "beer maid" outfit, it's a traditional
prom dresses online that's been worn by Bavarian women for hundred of years. Usually it consists of a simple white blouse layered under a corset and an apron-topped skirt, but according to WWD, Karl's version will be "all done with a rock ’n’ roll edge and touches of black leather."

The capsule collection is slated to launch next September at the new Karl Lagerfeld concept store in Munich (it will also be sold at the label's Berlin location), just in time for the city's 180th annual Oktoberfest, a 16-day festival dedicated to drinking beer. Whether or not people will purchase these dirndls while sober or drunk remains to be seen.

Madewell Fall 2013

Untitled-1

Yesterday Tom and I took his niece to New York City for the day to visit her cousin (another niece).  We met for lunch at Calexico then took a tour of the Kickstarter office where the Manhattan dwelling niece works.  We were partially there to follow up on an upcoming Kickstarter project that Tom and I are working on (more on that soon...) and also to hang out in the city and do a lot of nothing in particular.  The best kind of day.

Along the way, we stopped into the Madewell store at Broadway and Broome.  Last time we were there, the crowd inside had me running for the exit before I could make it up the staircase.  Luckily a Tuesday afternoon visit meant a much smaller crowd and room to breathe.  I'm always surprised at the pieces that catch my eye in the store verses the ones I like online.  I guess that says a lot about the styling of the collections online.   View more ....

Lulu*s Bandage Skirt

Summer Style: Lulu*s Bandage Skirt

| Skirt: Lulu*s c/o | Crop Top: Lulu*s c/o | Sunglasses: Lulu*s c/o |
| Necklace: SwayChic c/o | Clutch: etsy (thanks to my friend Sarah) |
| Bracelet: Forever21 Heels: ShoeMint | red prom dresses : Persun

About the look:
What I love about this skirt is the structure. The bandage material gives the piece volume and a flirty shape. For the heels, I opted for a strappy metallic sandal because I wanted the skirt to be the main feature of the outfit. I added a watermelon pink clutch that my friend Sarah gave me as a bridesmaid's gift! Doesn't she have great taste? The next time I wear this skirt, I'm going to pair it with a chambray shirt, little flats, and a cross body for a cute weekend look. original post here

Martha’s Vineyard Wedding

Martha’s Vineyard Wedding from Filley Photography

ny wedding where the motto happens to be Bowties Encouraged, Dancing Shoes Required automatically gets filed under parties I wish I could have gone to. It’s a theme I can totally get behind, and when you add the fact that this pretty party took place on Martha’s Vineyard, well you can just consider me smitten. It’s was a party planned to perfection by ZBR Events (complete with late night donuts from Back Door Donut), and even though I wasn’t able to be there in person, I am sure glad we all have the images from Jocelyn Filley Photography to attend this fabulous purple-infused party virtually. Do so here

From the Bride… Daniel and I had been together for just over 4 years when we got engaged at Jekyll Island on a short weekend getaway. My family’s soul food restaurant made it impossible for me to leave for longer than a weekend, so poor Daniel had to plan our trip around me. We stayed in Savannah, the same city we took our first trip to as a couple, and decided to take a day trip to the beach. After dragging me around the Jekyll Island resort while it was hot and  humid, we finally stopped by the beach to relax before heading back to Savannah. While on the beach, I was being incredibly cranky and having a hard time relaxing while I thought Daniel was napping next to me. I was just about to tell him I was ready to leave when I heard him rustling around next to me. I turned my head and started to prop myself on my elbows when I saw him get up to stand. I was looking up at him and then I saw him reach into his pocket and get something out and as he started to get down on one knee, it dawned on me what was about to happen and Lordy, I started bawling like a baby. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect moment for us, taking a stressful and not ideal situation and turning it into something so beautifully special.
I think we were able to enjoy the being engaged for a total of two days before all the frenzy kicked its way in! After deciding to have a Spring wedding, the venue hunt began. I was feeling so overwhelmed trying to incorporate the wants of both our families and still plan the wedding I envisioned for us. Daniel and I wanted an outdoor wedding because we wanted Daniel’s pit bull Tyson to be able to participate in our wedding but worried about the chance of rain and Georgia’s high pollen count! We happened to stumble across a new venue that had not even been built yet, but had other locations in Texas. We took a chance and visited the gravel lot of the soon to be built chapel and ballroom, and using lots of imagination and risk we decided to sign on for our April wedding with the estimated completion date set for the end of March. Ashton Gardens was exactly what we had hoped for, having a beautiful rustic style chapel that let in a flood of natural light with its floor to ceiling glass windows. The chapel also gave us the desired outdoor feel but with the protection of an indoor venue and they would let Tyson participate in the ceremony.
I am a very detail-oriented individual and tend to get focused on the small details. Luckily Daniel has the keen ability to help me step back and see the big picture, which was crucial to our planning.
Both of us having been raised in the south, wanted a Southern-inspired wedding with some rustic touches, that I wanted to help create. I contacted my florist and personal friend Yuri Kim, of Wedding Designs, to help me execute my vision. Daniel and I agreed that we wanted the sunlight and natural beauty of our venue to be the main focus during the wedding and decided to keep indoor decor to a minimum. This was definitely the case for the rustic Texan inspired chapel, with the dark colored wooden beams and looming windows. I loved how the sunlight was able to flood thru the windows and illuminate the altar where we were standing. Yuri knew I wanted a sweet and romantic setting for the reception, and pulling in the Southern vibe she came up with her own vision of the multi-vase centerpiece I fell in love with. I also had a mission to sneak in my not-so-secret passion for Hello Kitty into our wedding without it appearing childish. I found a porcelain Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel figurine I used as a wedding cake topper and a very subtle Hello Kitty lace ring pillow, but I felt those who knew me best would be looking for something Hello Kitty in our wedding and I could not disappoint. I loved how everything just looked so tied together and harmonious yet not overly girly or childish.
The accents of pink in the reception ballroom perfectly complimented the lush greens and streaming sunlight creating the garden feel we originally wanted with the comforts and glam of an indoor venue. I know there must have been things we missed and mistakes made, but to us it went off without a hitch and I don’t think we could have asked for a more perfect day!
